myowndestiny
↠ Canon Point: post-series (early January 2010, a few weeks before the Evo Registration Act is announced)
↠ Reserve: Here
↠ Age: 31
↠ Appearance: Here is a picture. Peter is slightly shorter than average height, at 5'9". He has light brown eyes and dark brown. He tends to grow out the front and let it hang in his face, and can often be seen sweeping it back behind an ear. He's athletic, as he needed to be for his medical profession. He often wears black, although he sometimes decides on other muted, dark tones. He used to wear a lot of hoodies and other 'college' wear, but that seems to have disappeared for more tailored shirts and better fabrics. He often looks sharp, but he'll never quite be the fashion plate the rest of his family seems to be.
He walks with an air of confidence, even when he's having a difficult time. His eyes are tired, but kind. His emotions tend to show on his face with no filtering- he's been trying to work on that, but he still has a tough time with being easily readable. When he's very happy, his smile is rather crooked.
↠ Reference/History: Peter's wiki page
↠ Personality:
Peter is a proactive idealist, someone who believes that justice can always be done and there is hope for everyone. His values have been tested time and time again during the show. But they always come out of it intact, if a little bent.
You get the first hint of his strong ideals as soon as he's introduced, considering he went against his family's wishes and became a nurse instead of a lawyer. He had always wanted to help people, and he thought this was a good way to do it. As Peter learned about his ability, and subsequently put people in danger, he felt extremely guilty about any problems he caused. But when there was any mention that there was something he could do to help people (even 'save the world'), he was ready to try it.
People in the past have taken advantage of his trusting nature, and he has learned to curb that somewhat. His tendency is still to look for the best in everyone. But after Adam nearly tricked him into killing most of the world's population with a virus, he's pulled back. The fact that almost every member of his family has heavily betrayed him at some point should have been the absolute end of Peter's trusting nature, but he came out of these terrible events (like his Mother's continual lies and his brother setting him up to be captured) with mere disappointment, rather than a change in his worldview.
One thing that did almost set him back was the death of his brother. He was very attached to Nathan, and learning that his brother had been dead for months and his mother had hidden that truth caused him to lose a lot of faith. During Nathan's funeral, Peter left and actually tracked down a hostage situation and got himself involved in a fit of frustration. He was feeling useless because they had all these powers and yet all these terrible things still happened.
And that's a problem Peter's always had. As an empath (his power had him copy others' powers through the use of an empathic connection), he would get easily lost in his emotions and in others' emotions. He was compassionate and loving, but not very patient. He would make stupid decisions on an emotional basis, always strongly reactionary. And that's how it was after Nathan's death. He was very, very mad.
If it hadn't been for a stint being stuck inside Sylar's mind, he might never have worked out his anger. Sylar and Peter were stuck inside a mindscape built by Matt Parkman and based on Sylar's greatest fears for what felt like eight years. Those fears were all centered on being alone, so when Peter got trapped it wasn't as bad for Sylar. Peter, however, was trapped with the man who had killed his brother. It turned out it was what he needed to learn that even Sylar had a history, and even Sylar could become a better person. It also gave Peter time to deal with his grief.
Coming out of that dream world, Peter is probably more stable than he's ever been. Sylar was able to help balance his trusting, emotional nature with a more logical and analytical side. After all his trials, he has a better sense of himself, and will still try to do the right thing- but in a more realistic fashion, now.
↠ Powers / Abilities: Peter has the power to copy someone else's power through touch. He can only manage one at a time. Unlike the ability he had previously (empathic mimicry), he tends to have decent- but not exceptional- control of any abilities he picks up. He often doesn't know when he first copies a power, and the person he copies it from won't usually notice. In the City, Peter will not copy any powers without player permission and OOC plotting, and I expect he'll only be able to copy genetically-gained powers in the first place.
Peter is also a very competent paramedic, with additional experience in hospice nursing. He is very good with both trauma and caretaking medicine, and takes any use of such seriously.
↠ Languages: Peter speaks English and French fluently, and knows about a high-school level of Italian.
↠ Inventory: Peter is wearing his paramedic uniform, which has a number of pockets on it for holding various items. Items he'll have on him include: his wallet, keys, a pair of shears, gloves, pens, a notepad, and a flashlight.
↠ Reason for Playing This Character: Peter seems like a great choice for the City of Sin, because he is a 'Hero' that has a history flying off the handle and doing his own thing. With the way the City allows for open interaction, and yet has a constant corruptive influence on all of its citizens, I could easily see Peter falling into decisions he'll regret later. His previous ability, empathic mimicry, only emphasized the way he tended to be swayed by thoughts and feelings of others. This is Peter's strength, as it allowed him to far more easily connect with people, but it also makes him a highly reactive person. And it means that he's likely to be highly influenced by the prominences and the events around him. It would also be interesting to see if Claire and Sylar, the two people he feels closest to, would help or hurt this situation.
↠ What is Your Character's Sin?: Peter's sin is Pride. Even though he tries to be the best person he can be, he often falls into the trap of thinking he's the only person who can help, or the best person to lead the way. It gets him into trouble a couple years post-canon with the Petrelli Movement (more on that in the third-person sample), and it's clear in the way he can never just leave anything alone. He doesn't always know what's going on, but he'll find out and fix the situation, one way or another. He often feels guilt when he decides on inaction, and that's the hardest thing for him to do.
He has made a number of mistakes in the past, however. And if people did get hurt, either due to his mistakes or not, he's always felt responsible. He's the sort of guy who expects himself to be capable of saving absolutely everyone.

[ As he appears on the screen, he looks a little sheepish, and his smile is embarrassed. He's leaning forward in a chair that is clearly far more fancy than he's comfortable with. ]
So…I just wanted to put this out there. To the person I almost flew into today: I'm really sorry about that. I wasn't paying attention. I'm not really used to anyone else being up there. I'll watch out from now on.
Anyway, my name's Peter. Peter Petrelli. I guess I'm the new kid in the neighborhood. Can't say I'm real happy about it, but I sort of got a run-down of the whole deal. I guess I wanted to ask: is there anything I really need to know before I start poking around? I heard this place was dangerous but the guy I talked to really didn't have any details.
↠ Third Person:
Note: This happens a few months after the canon point I'm taking Peter from, but I thought it really highlighted his traits. This is going off of events that occur in the Heroes Reborn e-book Save the Cheerleader, Destroy the World.
Peter had known it was coming since the first moment he heard the President utter the word 'Evo'. The Evo Registration Act, passed only two months after Claire's landmark jump off that ferris wheel, was supposed to be a way for people with special abilities to come out of hiding. Both Peter and Sylar had taken one look at it and knew it wasn't going to stay voluntary.
And it hadn't. Less than nine months after it was passed, it was changed to be a mandatory registration. Everyone in the United States with powers was required to present themselves to the government. A few too many locked-room robberies, a few too many 'incidents' that could've turned dangerous. And then Edgar had to go and kill Samuel Sullivan's lawyer. It seemed like congress had been looking for a reason to act on their fears, and that gave it to them.
Peter had been working hard to set up a safe 'underground' for Evos, ever since this started. It had been more necessary for other countries than it had been for the US. China was setting up 'weapons programs' that sounded gruesome, and registration was mandatory already in most parts of Europe. People needed a way to be free, and Peter wanted to make sure they had some way to escape.
Claire Petrelli (the name she went by now) was currently on the news. Peter watched as he paced in front of the TV. The interview was happening, what Claire was saying was good, but it wasn't enough. Claire was registered, and she'd been with the President when he announced the act in the first place. Worse, people weren't listening to her anymore. They had moved on to the next fad celebrity, the next inspirational hero.
To change opinion, it had to be him. The Petrelli name meant more than it ever had before. Not for the first time, Peter found himself wishing his brother was here. Nathan could've navigated these waters with ease, given a speech and then whisked off into the sky like Superman. Even as Peter thought it, though, he knew it wasn't true. Nathan would be working right alongside their mother, helping the company that was going to enforce the whole thing. He probably would've seen it as more practical.
No, it had to be Peter. People needed hope. And they needed to know this was wrong, if they didn't already. Peter frowned at the TV as the news turned towards the President's re-election, and he let out a frustrated sigh. "I'm gonna do it," he said.
"Do what?" asked Sylar, who was currently laying on the couch and looking rather despondent.
"I'm going to make a speech. And I'll tell everyone I'm not registering. And then I'm going to fly away."
"Peter…" Sylar sat up, letting out a sigh. Peter never changed his mind when he set it. "You know this is going to get violent, right? Not just us. If you tell people that--"
"I know, I know." Peter crossed his arms and chewed on his lip, as sadness crept into his eyes. "I know. But if someone doesn't stand against this now, it'll end up being a massacre." On one side or the other. Probably both.
Sylar pursed his lips as he tried to think of an argument. He didn't want Peter to do this, but this sort of thing was what it always came down to. "At least teleport instead," he finally said, conceding. "No one can shoot you on your way out, then."
Peter ran a hand through his hair and nodded. Maybe if he planned out the words well enough, people would see his refusal to follow this law as a civil protest and not an incitement to violence. Maybe he could somehow keep a lid on what was clearly already bubbling over. One thing he knew, he had a lot to plan for.
