History: Peter’s history at Heroes Wiki

Personality:
Peter always tried to be the hero, helping where others wouldn’t. He spent a lot of his youth generally trying to stand out from the rest of his family. It’s easy to tell what’s important to him when, in a desperate moment in Volume 4, he had a discussion with God in a church: ”I asked to be extraordinary and I promised to make the world a better place.” As soon as he found out he had a special power, he started using it to try and help people. And when given the opportunity, he did his best to save the world. He thought that was his destiny, and he’d let it happen.

As it turns out, things were far more complicated than that. Peter’s ability, empathic mimicry, meant that his tendency to feel what other people were feeling came with powers. These powers were as hard to control as the emotions they piggybacked from. Even when he did master them, intense moments could cause them to flare up in dangerous ways. Not only that, but following his emotions made it so easy to get tricked, fly off the handle, or make huge mistakes.

Eventually, Peter got worn down and rather tired of it all. Nothing would destroy his commitment to helping people. However, he realized that things were not black and white, and that destiny wasn’t just going to lead him by the nose. Blindly following his emotions, like some sort of comic book superhero, was not going to end well. So even though he felt things deeply, he knew he had to be more careful.

Even though he’s worked to distance himself emotionally somewhat, he still tends to make friends amazingly well. During his time on the show, his empathic mimicry ability was switched out for something that merely copied someone’s single ability. But his skill at empathizing with people never originated from his power. If anything, it was the other way around- his way of giving every person individual attention and consideration informed what his power would be.

Peter is especially considerate to his family. This is true even when they turn out to be dangerous or evil (which, sadly, most of his family has been, at one point or another). As part of his distancing tactic, he pulled away from contacting them, but it was clear it wore on him to do so. Even though he has complicated feelings about the manipulation, lies, and other things they all put him through, he still loves them. His brother Nathan he especially bonded with, and Nathan’s death left a hole in his heart that will probably never be filled. Nathan was often a jerk, but he was the one who was there for Peter the most while he was growing up.

Peter’s relationship with Sylar is no less complicated. It used to be very, very clear- Sylar had killed Nathan, and Peter wanted Sylar to suffer and die. But even this was not as black and white as he expected- after being trapped in Sylar’s mind for what felt like years, the two had a chance to really talk things out. They came out of the whole thing as friends, with Peter wanting to help Sylar find his redemption. When it came down to it, Peter could forgive even Sylar. It helped him realize that their fates were truly not set in stone.

Peter’s optimistic nature and attempts to keep to his fundamental ideals are a big part of why he’s likely to do well in Teleios. He had already essentially been trying to work off ‘debt’- in the last season, he was taking double and triple shifts, trying to save people’s lives whenever he was awake. It seemed like he was trying to make up for all the chaos and pain his actions had inadvertently caused. Working a job in Teleios, even if it doesn’t have anything to do with saving lives, will probably feel right to him.

The way Peter looks at the world, everyone is worth saving. He’ll continue to try and uphold that value as he settles into Teleios.

Powers/Abilities:
Peter has the ability to replicate other people’s abilities. A full description of it is here. This works differently than his original ability (empathic mimicry), in that he can now only copy one ability at a time. He also tends to have much better control of that ability. He can copy the ability just by touching someone, and it can work through clothes. At the time I play him, it’s possible for him to copy abilities accidentally- but as long as he knows about someone’s ability and is paying attention to not taking it, he won’t.

But since it’s very possible that will not count (it’s a slightly AU thread), here’s another one:

When Peter heard he had received a favor, he had some thinking to do. He knew that people used favors for all sorts of things- but especially for powers. He could get his back- in fact, he could get his real power back, the empathic mimicry. He wasn’t sure what that would mean in terms of how some of these people’s powers worked. He might just take on too many at once and pass out, like he did the first time he was around Sylar. Besides that, he liked the reliability that ability replication gave him- he almost always knew what it was he could do.

He decided he needed some fresh air and left the temple, hands in his pockets. He took a long walk, up and down cobblestone streets, enjoying the autumn air. Seeing some taller, ruined buildings in the distance, he wondered if he could get up to the roof of one. He always thought more clearly when he was on top of a building, it seemed like. Maybe he was too used to New York City.

Or maybe it was because of his brother. Nathan had shown him how to sneak up to the top of their mansion, when he was far too young to be up there. He’d liked being up high since then.

Peter paused in his walk, took a hand out of his pocket, and ran it through his hair. Still staring up at the building, he smiled a little. He knew what he wanted now, more than anything. He’d ask for Nathan’s flight.
